Dr. Hank Cerny
1. Tell us about your education. I received my Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska in Animal Science. In 1996, I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University and received my Master of Science from the University of Nebraska in 2001. While I was working on my Master's Degree, I was in charge of the microbiology laboratory at the University of Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic lab. I was also involved in research on many different bacterial pathogens including Salmonella, E. coli, Clostridium, Leptospira (Lepto) and Mvcoplasma. 2. What are your hobbies? I enjoy fishing, hiking, exercising and reading. I also love to travel; my favorite place in the world is the Czech Republic. 3. Do you have any pets? I have a hamster named Tiramisu who enjoys rolling around my house in her exercise ball and really enjoys running on her exercise wheel between 2-4 am. 4. Do you have any heroes? One of my heroes is Flavius Belisarius. He was a Roman general who often found himself greatly outnumbered but never gave up. Once, before a battle where his 10,000 Romans faced an enemy force of over 60,000, he told his men, "For not by numbers of men, nor by measure of body, but by valor of soul are battles want to be decided." My other two heroes were my mother and father. Both died of cancer within the same year but never gave up nor showed any outward sign of it getting the best of them. In fact, my mother's last words to me were to take care of my father; she rarely asked for things for herself but spent most of her time helping others. 5. What do you like most about veterinary medicine? I love the variety of veterinary practice. I enjoy dentistry, dermatology, ophthalmology and discussing nutrition and supplements.
